김종오 장인은 전주 풍남문 앞에서 주말마다 솟대를 만듭니다. 솟대를 선물 받고 기뻐하던 자신의 기억을 많은 사람들에게도 전하고 싶어 솟대를 만들기 시작했습니다. 김종오 장인은 어릴 적부터 이것저것 손수 정성을 들이는 것을 좋아했는데요. 솟대 제작에 필요한 목재도 직접 산에 올라 상처가 깊지 않은 것으로 직접 고릅니다. 깎아낸 나무에 사포질을 더해 완성된 솟대는 매끈하고 부드러운 외양을 자랑합니다.
Jong-oh Kim, Sotdae Artisan
Jong-oh Kim is a Sotdae artisan who creates Sotdae every weekend in front of Pungnammun in Jeonju. He began making Sotdae because he wanted to share with others the joy he felt when he received a Sotdae as a gift. Since Childhood, Jong-oh Kim has enjoyed crafting various things with his hands, always putting care and attention into his work. He personally climbs mountains to select the wood for his Sotdae, carefully choosing pieces with minimal damage. The finished Sotdae, after being carved and sanded, boasts a smooth and polished appearance.

장자요 도예가 방호식
방호식 도예가는 1995년부터 전북 전주와 김제에서 도자 작업을 하고 있습니다. 아내 유신아 도예가와 함께 20년 넘게 공간 ‘장자요’를 운영 중입니다. 달항아리, 매병 뿐 아니라 다기, 국그릇, 뚝배기 등 생활 식기의 다양한 기형을 제작합니다. 생활자기는 강도가 제일 중요합니다. 단단한 자기를 만들기 위해 단단한 백자토 원토를 사용하며, 흙에 알맞는 유약을 직접 만들어 바릅니다. 가마에 불을 16시간씩 오랜 시간 때어 도자기를 구워냅니다. 오랜 시간 불을 때는 게 힘들긴 하지만 철(鐵)과 비슷하게 담금질을 계속하면 할수록 자화가 잘되어 굉장히 단단한 도자기를 탄생시킵니다.
Ho-sik Bang, Potter
Ho-sik Bang has been working on ceramics in Jeonju and Gimje since 1995. Together with his wife, fellow potter Sin-ah Yoo, he has been running their workshop ‘Jangjayo’ for over 20 years. In addition to moon jars and plum vases, they produce a wide variety of everyday tableware, such as tea sets, soup bowls, and earthen pots. For everyday tableware, strength is the most important quality. To create sturdy ceramics, they use durable white clay and personally craft the glaze that best suits the clay. They fire their pottery in the kiln for 16 hours straight. Though it is a challenging process, similar to tempering iron, the more it is done, the stronger and more refined the ceramic becomes, resulting in highly durable pieces.

This moon jar is handcrafted by Jangjayo potter, Bang Ho Sik, carefully shaped one by one. It is crafted to a size that provides stability, perfectly complementing the height of the Sotdae. The white clay is kneaded and shaped on a potter's wheel, then fired in a kiln. Since each piece is handmade, no two are exactly the same. We offer a truly unique moon jar, the only one of its kind in the world.
