국가무형유산 악기장 임선빈 보유자는 12살부터 북을 배우기 시작했습니다. 처음 들었던 따뜻한 엄마 품 같은, 그리운 북소리를 잊지 못해 북일을 시작했죠. 그렇게 60년 넘게 현재까지 북 메우기, 가죽 무두질, 울림의 조율 등 전통 북 전반의 기술을 계승하고 있고, 여러 국악인의 요구에 맞는 소리북을 제작하고 사랑받고 있습니다.

National Intangible Cultural Heritage Musical Instrument Master Sun-bin Lim started learning to make Buk at the age of 12. Because he couldn't forget the first time he heard Buk sound like the warmth of his mother’s arms. For over 60 years, he has inherited the skills of the traditional Buk, including stretching a cowhide over either end of a Buk(The most important tasks, so it means all technologies of making Buk.), and tuning the sound of Buk. He has made and loved Buks for the needs of many national musicians.
History
구름의 소리를 닮은 사물북
타악기는 가장 오랜 역사를 지닌 악기군 중 하나로, 태초의 소리이자 영혼을 울리는 소리라고도 표현됩니다. 평소에 우리가 손뼉을 치면서 자연스럽게 박자를 맞추는 행동만 봐도 태초의 악기가 왜 타악기인 지 알 것 같기도 합니다.
사물북은 오랫동안 농경사회의 풍년과 공동체 화합을 도모하는 농악, 풍물놀이에서 음악의 중심을 잡아주며 쓰여왔습니다. 풍물놀이의 악기는 농사에 중요한 날씨와 관련해 상징성을 갖는데요. 꽹과리는 천둥, 장구는 비, 징은 바람, 북은 구름의 소리를 닮았다고 합니다. 이 소리와 악기가 장인의 손끝에서 전승되어오고 있습니다.

Percussion instruments are one of the oldest families of musical instruments, and have been described as the sound of the beginning of time and the sound of the soul. It's easy to see why percussion instruments were the first instruments of the world, just by looking at the way we clap our hands and spontaneously beat to the beat.
Samul buk has long been the centerpiece of Nongak and Pumgmullori in agrarian society, where they were used to celebrate good harvests and community harmony. The instruments are symbolic of the weather, which is important for farming: the Kkwaenggwari is said to resemble the sound of thunder, the Janggu the rain, the Jing the wind, and the Buk the clouds. These sounds and instruments have been passed down through the hands of master craftsmen.
