흔하면서도 귀한 것으로 일상을 든든히 지켜주던 북어
우리는 예부터 각종 안녕과 풍요를 기원하는 목적으로 북어를 널리 사용해왔습니다. 북어를 통해 신과 교감할 수 있다고 믿었고, 액운을 막아주기를 바라며 북어에 실타래를 감아 걸어두거나 제사상에 올리기도 했습니다. 굿을 할 때 나무에 묶는 경우도 많았죠. 액막이 뿐만 아니라, 각종 재물과 복을 바라는 마음으로도 많이 활용했고, 조선시대 식량이자 준화폐로서도 일상을 함께 해왔습니다.

We have long used Bukeo to pray for well-being and abundance, believing it to be a way to communicate with the gods, and wrapping threads around them to ward off bad luck. In addition to warding off evil spirits, Bukeo were also used as a source of wealth and good fortune, and were a staple food and quasi-currency during the Joseon Dynasty.
