방짜유기장 이종덕은 조선시대 유장(鍮匠)의 전통을 이어받아 현대에 그 명맥을 잇는 장인입니다. 2011년에는 그의 뛰어난 기술과 헌신을 인정받아 전북무형유산 방짜유기장으로 지정되었습니다.
이종덕 장인이 만든 싱잉볼, 꽹과리, 징과 같은 악기들은 국립국악원 및 김덕수 사물놀이패를 비롯한 많은 연희자들에게 사랑받으며, 그의 작품들은 전통적 기법을 현대적 감각으로 재해석하여 높은 예술적 가치와 실용성을 겸비하고 있습니다.
Jeong-duk Lee, Bangjja Brassware Master Artisan
Jeong-duk Lee is a master craftsman who continues the tradition of Joseon Dynasty ‘yujang’(The art of working with brass to make various objects and the craftsmen who work in it.)in the modern era. In 2011, he was designated as a Jeonbuk Intangible Cultural Heritage Bangjja Brassware holder.
His instruments, such as the ‘singing ball’, ‘kkwaenggwari’, and ‘jing’ are beloved by many performers, including the National Gukak(Korean traditional music) academy and Deok-soo Kim Samulnori Instrumental Music. His works combine high artistic value and practicality by reinterpreting traditional techniques with a modern twist.

유기는 삼국시대부터 지금까지 17세기 이상의 역사를 갖고 있습니다. 조선 후기, 대중적으로 많은 양의 유기가 보급되어 사용되기 전까지 유기는 귀족들이 애용하고, 중국 사신에게 선물로 주는 등의 고급 기물이었습니다.
두루 쓰이던 유기는 일제강점기에 일본군이 군사 무기를 만들기 위해 우리나라 놋그릇을 강제 공출하면서 줄어들게 되었고, 스테인리스의 성행으로 또 다시 위기를 맞기도 했습니다.

Yugi, which was experiencing a shortage phenomenon
Yugi has a history dating back over 17 centuries, from the Three Kingdoms period to the present day. Until the late Joseon Dynasty, when large quantities of Yugi became widely available to the public, it was a luxury item favored by aristocrats and given as gifts to Chinese envoys.
The ubiquitous Yugi declined during the Japanese colonial period, when the Japanese forced Korean brassware to be exported to make military weapons, and was again threatened by the rise of stainless steel.
