이종덕 장인이 만든 싱잉볼, 꽹과리, 징과 같은 악기들은 국립국악원 및 김덕수 사물놀이패를 비롯한 많은 연희자들에게 사랑받으며, 그의 작품들은 전통적 기법을 현대적 감각으로 재해석하여 높은 예술적 가치와 실용성을 겸비하고 있습니다.
Jeong-duk Lee, Bangjja Brassware Master Artisan
Jeong-duk Lee is a master craftsman who continues the tradition of Joseon Dynasty ‘Yujang’(The art of working with brass to make various objects and the craftsmen who work in it.)in the modern era. In 2011, he was designated as a Jeonbuk Intangible Cultural Heritage Bangjja Brassware holder.
His instruments, such as the ‘singing ball’, ‘kkwaenggwari’, and ‘jing’ are beloved by many performers, including the National Gukak(Korean traditional music) academy and Deok-soo Kim Samulnori Instrumental Music. His works combine high artistic value and practicality by reinterpreting traditional techniques with a modern twist.

고래꼬리는 왜 행운을 상징할까요?
과거 고래는 동서양을 막론하고 인간에게 미지의 동물이었습니다. 고대 사람들은 고래를 바다의 수호신으로 여겼고, 마주치기 어려운 고래를 만나면 평화롭고 기분 좋은 일이 생길 거라고 믿기도 했죠.
조선시대 문신 김지남(金止男, 1559∼1631)이 쓴 『용계유고』 권2, 「장경행(長鯨行)」을 보면 “(고래는 마치) 거대한 신령이 산을 이고 오는 듯하니… 물 속에서 솟아오른 용왕의 궁궐인가” 라며 고래를 신성한 존재와 연결하기도 했습니다. 이렇게 사람들은 고래를 신성한 동물로 여겼고, 고래꼬리를 닮은 조개껍질을 몸에 지니고 다니면서 행운을 기약하기도 했습니다.
Why does a whale's tail symbolize good luck?
In the past, whales were a mystery to humans in both the East and West. Ancient peoples regarded them as the guardians of the sea and believed that encountering the elusive whales would bring peace and good fortune.
The Joseon Dynasty civil official Ji-nam Kim(1559-1631) wrote in 「The long Journey」 that ”(whales) are as if a huge divine spirit is carrying mountains... they are the palace of the dragon king rising from the water.” As such, people associated whales with divine beings, and even carried shells resembling whale tails for good luck.
