국가무형유산 매듭장 박형민 이수자의 할아버지는 국가무형유산 매듭장 故 정연수입니다. 정연수는 서울 광희동에서 특산으로 쳤던 매듭을 작업하던 장인이었습니다. 정연수의 가르침을 이어 현재 박형민의 모친과 누이들 모두 매듭일을 하고 있습니다.

Hyung-min Park's grandfather, Yeon-su Jeong, was the holder of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Knot. He was a master artisan who specialized in cord making and knotting, a craft associated with Gwanghwi-dong, Seoul. Following in his footsteps, Park's mother and sisters are currently working knotting.
History
권위와 멋을 함께 누리다
늘어뜨린 끈은 예로부터 권위와 격식을 뜻했습니다. 왕의 면류관, 양반의 옷차림, 상여의 유소까지 끈을 늘어뜨리는 방식은 품위와 위엄의 표현이었습니다. 격식의 상징인 ‘부채’에도 매듭으로 된 ‘선추’를 달아 권위를 더욱 높였습니다.
Authority and cool
Since ancient times, ‘strings’ have signified authority and formality. The strings on a king's crown, the sash on a scholar's clothes, and the tassel on a bonus all conveyed authority and dignity. The fan, a symbol of dignity, was also decorated with a knotted Seonchu to further enhance its authority.
